Pokemon Card Types
The Pokemon TCG plays with eleven energy types (the card game's own type chart — Lightning rather than Electric, Darkness rather than Dark). Browse every type's cards, top Pokemon, and most valuable cards.
- Grass Pokemon cards ×2,415Grass Pokemon specialize in healing and Energy acceleration, often loading Energy straight from the discard pile. Many lean on status conditions and cost-efficient attackers, making Grass a staple of toolbox and stall decks.
- Fire Pokemon cards ×1,588Fire Pokemon trade Energy — usually by discarding it — for some of the largest single-attack damage in the game. They reward aggressive, high-tempo play and pair with Energy-recycling support to keep swinging.
- Water Pokemon cards ×2,469Water Pokemon move Energy freely and control the board, from bench-snipe attackers to fast spread damage. The type has anchored many top-tier decks thanks to flexible Energy acceleration.
- Lightning Pokemon cards ×1,548Lightning Pokemon hit fast and recur Energy from the discard, often sniping the bench for extra prizes. Speed and Energy efficiency define the type's most competitive attackers.
- Psychic Pokemon cards ×2,358Psychic Pokemon attack the opponent's hand and Energy while scaling damage with counters and special conditions. The type spans disruptive control decks and heavy-hitting evolutions.
- Fighting Pokemon cards ×1,922Fighting Pokemon stack damage modifiers — stadiums, tools, and Weakness — to punch above their Energy cost, and they hit Colorless and Lightning Pokemon for Weakness. Aggressive, board-pressuring decks are the type's hallmark.
- Darkness Pokemon cards ×1,287Darkness Pokemon disrupt, poison, and exploit special Darkness Energy for cheap, efficient attacks. The type rewards setup and grind, from spread-damage engines to single-prize toolboxes.
- Metal Pokemon cards ×967Metal Pokemon tank hits with damage reduction and high HP, grinding out long games. Special Metal Energy and defensive tools make the type a favorite for control and bulk strategies.
- Fairy Pokemon cards ×275Fairy was an Energy type from XY through Sword & Shield, bending damage away and disrupting attackers before being retired. Cards still carry the type for collectors and Expanded play.
- Dragon Pokemon cards ×533Dragon Pokemon demand multiple Energy types to attack and pay it back with outsized damage. Many carry no Weakness, but their multi-color Energy cost keeps them a high-risk, high-reward build.
- Colorless Pokemon cards ×2,232Colorless Pokemon fit into any deck — their attacks can be paid with Energy of any type, making them flexible attackers and consistent evolution lines. Many of the game's iconic 'normal' Pokemon are Colorless.
